The existence of perfect codes in the Johnson scheme is a fundamental coding unsolved problem that was initiated by Delsarte in 1973. We will show how to use Steiner systems and configuration distribution (akin to the weight distribution) to show parameters for which perfect codes cannnot exist. Two fundamental directions on the existence of such codes are described and it is believed that there can be progress in these two directions.
