摘要:It was von Neumann who first distinguished symmetric operators from self-adjoint ones in his studies of the mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics in late 1920s. von Neumann then invented his self-adjoint extension theory of symmetric operators, which now is a classical topic in spectral theory. Based on my recent work, in this talk I will explain a complex-geometric formalism to deal with this topic. E. Cartan's theory on Hermitian symmetric spaces and R. Nevanlinna's value distribution theory are shown to be natural tools to enrich von Neumann's original theory.
