Abstract: Higgs bundle originally came from Yang-Mills-Higgs theory and has been found with important applications in Algebraic  Geometry, for example, fundamental groups of algebraic manifolds, uniformization  theory and geometric Langlands program.We propose to explore the following new directions in Higgs bundle theory:Higgs bundle on moduli spaces of algebraic manifolds and hyperbolicity; Higgs bundle on moduli spaces of abelian varieties and algebraic curves and Coleman-Oort conjecture on the finiteness of Jacobians; Higgs bundle and its relation  to the motivic local system via a proposed arithmetic Simpson correspondence.
