内容提要:
In space-time discontinuous Galerkin (DG) finite element methods time is considered an additional dimension. Spatial and temporal variables are discretized simultaneously in d+1 space using basis functions that are discontinuous, both in space and time. Space-time DG methods are well suited to solve partial differential equations on time-dependent domains. Examples are free surface waves and fluid structure interaction problems, but also internal interfaces, which occur in multi-fluid problems.
In this class we will first consider space-time DG discretizations for simple hyperbolic and parabolic equations to explain the main concept of the space-time DG method. In the second part some examples from fluid mechanics will be discussed, such as the compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations and dispersed multiphase flows modeled by non-conservative hyperbolic partial differential equations.
