We are going to introduce infinite ODE systems and define their tau-functions. We will show the tau function of the ODE system is the tau-function of the Drinfeld--Sokolov hierarchy. In the case of the Gelfand--Dickey hierarchy, the algebro-geometric solutions are studied through this ODE system.
