摘要: Hyperbolicity is an important concept in dynamical systems. For many systems, It is the origin of various complicated dynamical behaviors such as ergodicity, mixing, instability, structural stablity, etc. It also appears in group theory, geometry etc. In this talk, we give an overview of the role of hyperbolicity in several fields of mathematics and show how it appears in Thurston's program of geometrization. Finally, we explain our recent joint work with Wenmin Gong and Zhijing Wang on a (partial) generalization of Thurston's theory to higher dimensions.
