摘要：Degenerate dispersive PDEs appear in various areas of physics. Unlike their non-degenerate counterparts, wellposedness for those is a very subtle issue. This issue can be understood in terms of high frequency wave packets, which are roughly speaking highly oscillatory Gaussian-like approximate solutions. We explain main ideas that go into the construction of wavepackets, and how to interpret consequences for wellposedness. This is based on joint works with Sung-Jin Oh (UC Berkeley).
