In this series of reading seminars, we study Poisson vertex algebras (PVAs) and their role in integrable systems. We begin with the basic definitions of PVAs, Hamiltonian equations, and integrability. As an example, we then discuss the classical affine W-algebra and review the construction of generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies associated with the classical affine W-algebra.
