Dubrovin-Novikov brackets are Poisson structures defined by homogeneous differential operators on the loop space of a smooth manifolds; the prototypical example are the Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type that, as it is well known, are defined by a flat contravariant metric and its Levi-Civita connection. In this report, I will present the recent progress in the investigation of brackets of arbitrary degree k. This is a joint work with G. Carlet (U. of Bourgogne-Europe, France)
