Over a collection of convex polygons, one would like to construct smooth locally supported basis functions. With GBC(generalized barycentric coordinates), we can construct continuous finite element like functions (degree 1). I shall explain how to use them for constructing continuous locally supported basis functions of higher degree. Furthermore, using Wachspress coordinates, I shall explain how to construct C^1 smooth locally supported basis functions.
In the end, I shall explain how to use them for numerical solution of Poisson and other second order elliptic partial differential equations (in divergence form).
